A good friend of mine, who also happens to be a Doctor in training, just sent me this really helpful piece about coming off antidepressants. It summarises the symptoms that 817 people in a longitudinal study experienced whilst coming off one of eight different medications. In brief, the three most common symptoms were anxiety (70% of participants), followed by dizziness (61%) and vivid dreams (51%). However, further down the list you will find stomach upsets, headaches, and flu-like symptoms.
This week has been the first really challenging week in coming off Citalopram. I’ve experienced over half of the listed symptoms from the study! I actually thought I was sick earlier in the week and had furthermore overworked myself into anxiety again, but according to the findings of the study, it looks like it can all be explained by antidepressant withdrawal. FFS.
